Michael I Rothstein is an accomplished trial and appellate lawyer with extensive experience in handling complex commercial, corporate, financial, and governmental litigation. Mr. Rothstein co-founded Tabet DiVito & Rothstein LLC with Caesar Tabet and Gino DiVito in February 2001. Prior to that, he was a founding partner of Quinlan & Crisham, Ltd., and before that, an associate with the firm of Phelan, Pope & John, Ltd.

Mr. Rothstein is a 1987 graduate of the Boston University School of Law and a 1982 graduate of Indiana University's Kelley School of Business. A certified public accountant, he previously worked in the audit department of Arthur Young & Co. (now Ernst & Young).

Mr. Rothstein has represented major multi-national and domestic corporations, a national securities exchange, major banks, investment companies, mutual funds, mid-sized and family-owned businesses, high-net-worth individuals, developers, construction companies, and state and local governmental entities in federal and state courts in Illinois and around the country. An accomplished appellate advocate, Mr. Rothstein has represented clients before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, the Illinois Supreme Court, and the Illinois Appellate Court.

In 1988 and 1989, Mr. Rothstein served as an assistant special counsel to the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Standards of Official Conduct (the House Ethics Committee) in the investigation of House Speaker James C. Wright, Jr., and was a principal author of the outside counsel’s final report to the Ethics Committee.

Mr. Rothstein is a member of the Illinois bar, as well as the bars of the U.S. Supreme Court, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and the United States District Court for the District of Colorado. Mr. Rothstein is a past president of the Illinois Appellate Lawyers Association, and a member of the American Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, the 7th Circuit Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, and the Chicago Bar Association.

Active in public and community affairs, Mr. Rothstein serves as a National Commissioner of the Anti-Defamation League, and on the board and executive committee of the ADL’s Greater Chicago-Upper Midwest Region. Mr. Rothstein has co-chaired the ADL’s Midwest Civil Rights Committee and Administrative Committees, currently co-chairs its Development Committee, and has been elected to chair the Greater Chicago-Upper Midwest Region in 2012-13. He also serves as an emeritus board member of the Center for Enriched Living, an activity and recreational center for developmentally disabled children and adults. Mr. Rothstein resides in Wilmette with his wife and four children.
